The teams played on Jan. 8 in San Diego and the Aztecs trounced then-No. 20 Colorado State 79-49. Matt Bradley scored 26 points and the dominated in a game that wasn’t supposed to be played until March 1. Chad Baker-Mazara added 14 points for SDSU, which outscored the Rams 43-17 in the second half for its largest margin of victory ever against a ranked team. The Rams were held to just 27.9% shooting from the field and were outrebounded 38-21. The Aztecs also blocked eight of the Rams’ shots. Isaiah Stevens had 19 and David Roddy 17 for Colorado State.
San Diego State and Colorado State are meeting for the 90th time, with the Aztecs holding a 47-42 series advantage. The Aztecs have won seven of the last eight meetings.

SDSI (12-5) crushed New Mexico 72-47 on Monday. New Mexico totaled 25 second-half points, a season low for the team. Keshad Johnson and Matt Bradley scored 14 points apiece to lead the Aztecs, who became the first team to defeat UNM by 20 or more points in three consecutive meetings. In addition, SDSU improved to 13-1 in its last 14 games immediately following a loss.
Johnson, who set a season-best with his point production on 6-of-10 shooting, also pulled down 10 rebounds for his second career double-double, while Lamont Butler finished with nine points and matched his personal best with six boards while adding four assists.
SDSU connected on 26 of 58 of its field-goal attempts (.448) while sinking 11 of 14 free throws (.786). The Aztecs had a 19-8 advantage in assists and while outscoring UNM on the fastbreak by a sizeable 25-1 margin.
San Diego State is 25-1 the last 26 times it has led at intermission (11-1 this season, 94-12 in the Brian Dutcher era). SDSU has won 29 straight games when owning a rebound advantage (11-0 this season, 77-9 in Dutcher era). Finally, SDSU won its 28th consecutive game when shooting at least 50 percent from the field (3-0 this season, 40-1 in Dutcher era).
Bradley, who is averaging 20 points in his last three outings, has made 24 of his last 36 attempts from the field (66.7 percent), including 5-of-9 from three-point range (55.6 percent) during that span.
San Diego State ranks among the nation’s best in defense. The Aztecs are 4th in scoring defense (56.8), 3rd in effective field goal percentage (42.3), 3rd in field goal percentage defense (36.9) and 19th in three-point field goal percentage defense (28.9).

Colorado State (16-3) lost at an excellent Wyoming team on Monday, 84-78 in overtime. Hunter Maldonado had a career-high 35 points, including the go-ahead layup with just under a minute to play. To lead CSU, David Roddy finished with 23 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals, while junior guard Isaiah Stevens had 17 points, three rebounds and five assists. Junior guard John Tonje was the only other Ram in double figures with 15 off the bench. Roddy moved up to No. 16 in the CSU scoring charts at 1,164 points. Stevens moved into 17th right behind Roddy with 1,162 points and is now fourth in career assists with 392.
Roddy was named to the Karl Malone Award Watch List’s Top 10 finalists. He leads the Rams in scoring (18.58 ppg) and rebounding (7.74 rpg), ranking fifth and sixth in the Mountain West, respectively. He has posted two 30+ point games and has five double-doubles on the year and 19 in his career.
The Rams have done a great job taking care of possessions and making the most of them. CSU is 16th nationally in fewest turnovers at 10.32 per game and 15th on assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.46. CSU is outscoring opponents by an average of 7.1 points per game in the second half, including six games with 50 or more in the final 20 minutes.
CSU holds a 26-14 advantage in Fort Collins against San Diego State.
