Like every other sport that had their season disrupted, Formula 1 has had to be a little creative since announcing that they are returning to action. This is not a sport that can be played in a bubble like is being done in the MLS and the NBA, as it is a global affair that has a multitude of logistics to consider. One of the things that F1 has decided to do is have races in the same place on consecutive weekends. They did that to start the season, with the first 2 races held in Austria. It will be more of the same for legs 4 and 5 of the season, with the teams putting down roots in Great Britain for the next couple of weeks. The action will begin this weekend with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, which will be followed up by the 70th anniversary race on the same track next weekend. Let’s take a closer look at some of the favorites for this weekend, along with their Formula 1 odds.
F1 – Pirelli British Grand Prix Odds & Pick
Lewis Hamilton (+225)
After a rough opening week, the most dominant driver of the past decade in Formula 1 is back in business and sitting atop the driver standings. Lewis Hamilton comes into this weekend on the heels of back to back wins that have vaulted him to the top, where he so often sits. The bad news for the drivers intent on catching him is that no one in the history of the British Grand Prix has won it more than Hamilton has, which is 6 times, including in 5 of the last 6 seasons. With that in mind, it’s tough to see anyone but Hamilton taking the checkered flag.
Valtteri Bottas (+225)
The Finnish driver has made an excellent start to the season, landing on the podium in each of the first 3 races of the year. He opened things up with a win in Austria, after which he took 2nd in the next race in Austria, followed by a 3rd place finish last weekend in Hungary. It’s a strong start, but he also needs to get wins if he is to seriously challenge Hamilton for the crown. Over his past 3 runs at the British Grand Prix, Bottas has never finished worse than 4th, and has actually finished 2nd in 2 of the last 3 years. Definitely a threat on Sunday.
Max Verstappen (+650)
Verstappen is a lot like Bottas in that he may have won a World Championship in recent years had it not been for the dominance of Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen has finished 3rd in the driver standings in each of the last 3 years, so he always needs to be considered a favorite in any race. He got off to a slow start in week 1, but he has rebounded with a 2nd and a 3rd in the last 2 races. He has not had a ton of joy at the British Grand Prix, with hos 2nd place finish back in 2016 being his best showing.
Sergio Perez (+2200)
The odds drop off rather dramatically after the top 3 favorites, with the Mexican being a bit of a surprising selection at these odds. He has never posted a win on the F1 circuit and has never finished higher than 7th in the drive standings. He is topping that personal best at the moment, though sitting in 6th, but an awful lot would need to go his way for him to get the win here.
