NHL working on answering important questions
There are a ton of questions to answer involving the National Hockey Leagues upcoming season. The most important has to do with testing as well as whether the league will play games in hub cities or open arenas with fans.
First, testing should take shape fairly soon. The league proved they could perform COVID testing without running into any issues during the hub city bubble they used to finish the 2019-2020 hockey season.
But testing only works if the league can test teams quickly, which brings us to the second question, will the National Hockey League play games in two to three hub cities this season? The answer could be “yes” and “no”.
On Monday, Pfizer said their coronavirus vaccine proved over 90% effectiveness. If further tests show that the company’s vaccine truly is an answer, the league could start the season in two to three hub cities before opening up other cities to play games.
If the league wants to start the NHL Season on Dec. 1, the only choice is to play games in one or two hub cities. People can travel across the Canadian and U.S. border only for essential purposes. Neither the U.S. nor Canada appear ready to define playing hockey games as essential.
Unless something big happens Golden Knights and Avalanche will remain favorites
Until the NHL settles it’s main questions, and players head to training camp to prepare for the new season, the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche figure to remain 2021 Stanley Cup favorites.
The Avalanche, especially, appear strong this season. At +550, they might be worth a look because right now at least they’re better than most any other team in the league.
