We’re at the halfway point in the NFL Season and so far, so good. Although some teams have had COVID positives, things haven’t gone nearly as badly as many predicted. The second half of the season should be fantastic as teams continue to fight for playoff positions and other teams hope to shore up their squads and make a run for the Super Bowl. Steelers beat Ravens in battle for AFC North supremacy
In the most important game on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens. For Pittsburgh it was a chance to lay down the gauntlet. The Steelers entered Edgar Allan Poe’s home undefeated. The Ravens had a chance to tie Pittsburgh in the AFC North.
Unfortunately for Baltimore, Pittsburgh is the more complete team. Their offense is very efficient. When Big Ben doesn’t throw interceptions, Pittsburgh can beat any team in the NFL. Roethlisberger and the offense uses a short passing game that acts almost like a pitch out rushing attack.
No team in the NFL has a better defense than the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh relies on an old football mantra, stop the rush first and then think about the pass. It worked perfectly against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
Lamar has thrown just 4 interceptions, but he’s completing only 60.5% of his passes. He’s rushing the ball well, a 6.2 average, but, like what Pittsburgh showed, if you can force Jackson to pass, he become a mediocre quarterback.
That could change, of course. Lamar Jackson remains one of the best players in the NFL. He can turn it round percentage wise. Last season Lamar completed 66.1% of his passes. If he gets back to that, the Ravens will again become a force in the AFC.
J-E-T-S break a Super Bowl odds record to win but Cowboys might be a worse team
The New York Jets are a +200000 choice to win the Super Bowl. The winless Jets won’t make the playoffs and that’s why they’re at 200-to-1, but let’s be real for a moment. As bad as the Jets are, they aren’t worse than the Dallas Cowboys.
The Jets have a problem with their coach and the entire offense. The defense ranks 26th in total yards allowed and 13th in rushing yards allowed. Teams dominate the Jets because the offense is so ridiculously awful.
However, stats wise at least, the Dallas Cowboys are worse. Dallas allows 170.9 rushing yards per, 32nd in the league, and 33.3 points per, again, last in the NFL. The Cowboys offense does average 33.1 points but in their last three games with Dak Prescott hurt they’ve scored 10 versus the Cardinals, 3 against the Washington Football Team, and 9 versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dallas is also 0-8 against the spread. The Jets at least have a win ATS versus the Buffalo Bills.
Packers versus 49ers on Thursday night kicks off a huge NFL Week 9
Week 9 doesn’t let up. Finally, we’ve got a serious game on Thursday night. The Green Bay Packers head to Santa Clara to take on the San Francisco 49ers. The Pack are licking their wounds after falling to the rival Minnesota Vikings. San Francisco suffered more injuries in Week 8. Neither Jimmy Garoppolo nor Greg Kittle could suit up on Thursday. If neither goes, that will make Green Bay a slight road favorite.
Seattle at Buffalo and the Bears heading to Nashville to take on the Titans are the early games to circle. Sunday night’s matchup is a good one as Drew Brees leads the Saints into Tampa to battle the scorching Buccaneers.
