5 Fearless College Football Betting Predictions for the Big 10
2022 NCAAF Season
- When: August 27, 2022 – Dec. 10, 2022
Ohio State’s offense rocks, but the defense struggles and will lead to at least one loss
If the Ohio State offensive line comes together, the Buckeyes should send the best offense in the conference to the field. But if the line doesn’t play well, quarterback C.J. Stroud will struggle.
Let’s assume the line does play well. Ohio State may still find it difficult to go undefeated in conference play. Sure, Ryan Day hired Jim Knowles to run the defense and Knowles did wonders with Oklahoma State’s D.
But let’s not kid ourselves. The Big 12 didn’t have as many good teams last season as so many believed. Also, it doesn’t matter kind of genius coach you are if you don’t have the players.
Ohio State loses at least one game this season. Notre Dame, Iowa, and Wisconsin won’t be locks. Neither will be a road game versus Michigan State and Michigan’s defense should still be great.
Michigan goes undefeated until traveling to Columbus
In 2021, the Wolverines got over the hump. Jim Harbaugh finally beat Ohio State and Michigan finally made it to the College Football Playoff.
Who cares if eventual title winner Georgia dusted the Wolverines? Michigan got it done. This season, Michigan can get it done again.
The Wolverines lost key players on defense, but Harbaugh is a fantastic recruiter. Michigan’s defense should reload. The offensive line returns three starters, including 6’ 7” Ryan Hayes.
So if the defense doesn’t take a backward step, we should expect Michigan to play as well as any team in the Big Ten. The Wolverines should go undefeated until they face Ohio State.
Penn State loses at least five games during the season
The Nittany Lions often bounce back after bad seasons. A bounce back won’t happen in 2022, though.
The Lions are on the road at Purdue and at Auburn in 2 of their first 3 games. Penn State figures to lose both of those contests.
Then the Nittany Lions are at Michigan, host an underrated Minnesota team, and host Ohio State in back-to-back-to-back matchups. Penn State must also travel to Rutgers and close out the season at home versus Michigan State. At least 5 losses this season appears all but assured.
Nebraska parts ways with Scott Frost before the final game
Some college football program, like Michigan and Ohio State, never stay down for long. A university like Ohio State may have a losing season once in a while, but the bad times never last.
Then there’s programs like Nebraska. At one point, in the 1970s and 1980s, the Cornhuskers were the best college football team in the nation. Nebraska versus Oklahoma was the rivalry, not Georgia versus Alabama or even Michigan versus Ohio State.
Nebraska is no longer a football behemoth. When the school hired Scott Frost, who played on some of those dominant teams, many Husker fans jumped for joy.
Not anymore. Nebraska is a mess. The Cornhuskers are so much of a mess that after starting the season 3-0, Nebraska loses 6-of-7. The university will fire Frost before Nebraska’s final contest, a Nov. 25 game at Iowa.
Wisconsin wins the Big Ten
Wisconsin should bounce back this season. The defense will be the rockstar on the team, but the offense should be much better.
It starts with quarterback Graham Mertz. If he plays well, the Badgers may lose only to Ohio State on Sep. 24, and even then, Wisconsin will have a chance to pull off the upset.
If Mertz doesn’t play well, Wisconsin could lose up to 4 games. The thinking here is that Mertz plays well.
Wisconsin should become one of the best teams in the nation. The Badgers have all the pieces to win the Big Ten over Michigan and Ohio State. It’s a bold prediction but this article is about bold predictions.
So the most fearless prediction is that the Wisconsin Badgers upset Michigan or Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship.
