Soccer Betting Analysis for the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup – Second Round Matches
CF Monterrey -1 ½ +129 vs Al Ahly SC +1 ½ -172
- When: Saturday, Feb. 5
Recent form suggests Al Ahly has a chance. The home team has won 4-of-5. Al Ahly has not only won 4-of-5, but in their last 2 matches, they dominated, beating Esperance Sportive de Tunis 3-0 two games back and blasting Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 in their last.
But although Al Ahly has played well in their last few games, we shouldn’t read too much into the record. Al Ahly’s last match happened back on July 17, 2021 in a CAF Champions League contest.
Monterrey last played on Jan. 22. The road squad drew 2-2 with one of their chief Mexican Liga BBVA rivals, Cruz Azul. Liga MX is one of the most underrated soccer leagues in the world. Teams like Monterrey develop players who end up in Serie A, La Liga, and the Premier.
Although Monterrey shows just a single victory in their last 5, the Mexican Liga squad drew in their other 4 matches. Not only that, but they have a huge recency edge over the home squad. The road team can cover the handicap.
FIFA Club World Cup Pick: CF Monterrey
Al Jazira +255 vs Al Hilal Rijad -106
- When: Sunday, Feb. 6
For the first time since 2016, Al Jazira throws down agianst Al Hilal Rijad in a soccer match that means something. Both teams want a crack at the Blues on Wednesday.
Also, these two are similar in terms of talent. So unlike the Saturday FIFA Club World Cup game, where Monterrey should have no trouble winning, handicapping Al Jazira versus Al Hilal is a challenge.
One issue is that although Al Jazira played on Feb. 3, it was against Tahitian squad AS Pirae. So the 4-1 victory doesn’t necessarily impress as much as Al Hilal’s 2-0 win against Pohang Steelers on Nov. 23 last year.
In fact, Al Hilal’s win impresses more. With the victory over Pohang Steelers, Al Hilal became the first ever 4-time AFC Champions League titlist.
Not only does this happen on the champion’s pitch, but the odds make Al Hilal more than playable. The home squad gets the crack at Chelsea.
FIFA Club World Cup Pick: Al Hilal Rijad
